§ 5-1-12. Structure numbering.

  • Whereas, the City of Sandersville has implemented an enhanced 911 system so as to reduce response time of emergency as well as law enforcement vehicles in the City of Sandersville; and

    A citywide system of structure numbering is necessary for the implementation of the E911, it is hereby ordained by the Mayor and Council of the City of Sandersville, Georgia and by its authority thereof, that the owners of any and all businesses and residences in the City will cause to be posted on said residence, business or structure at a minimum of two (2) locations, numbers at least three (3) inches high, indicating each business, residence and structure by its assigned 911 street address number.

    (a)

    It is hereby specified that the numbers shall be placed on the structure itself, on the side visible to the driveway or street so that numbers can be clearly visible.

    (b)

    All owners of businesses, residences or structures, shall place numbers on their mailbox with said mailbox being located at the curb in such a manner as to be visible from both sides. In the event a mailbox is not located at the curb or at a location near their driveway, then the numbers and letters shall be placed visible from the street. The numbers shall be placed, visible from the street, on or above ground level, attached to a post or other object at the drive-way or curb cut. Said numbers should be three (3) inches in height or larger and of a color contrasting with the color of the background on which said numbers are located.

    (c)

    It shall be the duty of the owner or occupant of said residence or dwelling unit, business or structure, upon the affixing of the new numbers to remove any different numbers that might be mistaken for or confused with the number assigned to the structure.

    (d)

    Citizens of the City shall have until the 1st day of September, 1994 to place said numbers in their appropriate place.

    (e)

    Persons failing to comply with this section will be given one (1) warning of their failure to comply and given seven (7) days in which to comply. In the event said person fails to comply, then said person shall be guilty of violation of this section and be punished by imprisonment in the Sandersville City Jail for a period of time not to exceed one (1) day and/or a fine not to exceed twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

    (f)

    Persons, firms, corporations or any other entities constructing, renovating or planning to occupy a new location shall apply for, receive and install identification numbers prior to occupancy.
